About This Work
This observational study focuses on capturing fine detail, texture, and light within a close-up subject. I used graphite to build tonal depth in the surrounding structure, combined with coloured pencil to enhance the vibrancy of the iris and create a strong focal point.
The piece explores contrast between monochrome and colour, guiding attention and adding visual impact. Through this work, I developed precision in layering and a deeper understanding of how light interacts with reflective surfaces.

Close-up tonal study, texture exploration, and final rendered detail.
Relevance to my work
This study strengthened my understanding of lighting, surface texture, and focal emphasis, which directly informs my approach to motion design. The use of contrast and detail can translate into animated sequences through subtle movement, lighting transitions, and depth-based compositions.
